Russell Williams was described by his coworkers as a model military officer. He was promoted to captain in 1991 and became leader of Canada’s largest and busiest military airbase. He once even flew the Queen across the Atlantic. Aside from Russell’s successful military career, he was a married man of four children. Nobody, not even his own family, was aware of his perverted mind. Between 2007 and 2009, Russell broke into 82 Ontario homes and stole underwear from girls as young as nine. He would wear them and masturbate in their bed, then later photograph himself modeling in stolen lingerie. In 2009, however, his fetish-motivated home invasions soon escalated into rape and murder when a 37-year-old military flight attendant was found dead in her home. In 2010, he broke into 27-year-old Jessica Lloyd’s home, put duct tape over her eyes, and videotaped himself raping her. He then took her to his house, forced her to shower, then brutally raped her again. Jessica begged for her life, imploring one last time, “If I die, will you make sure that my mom knows that I love her?” Russell then struck her unconscious with a flashlight and strangled her to death with a rope.
Investigators were able to identify the tire tracks left in snow near Jessica’s home as Russell’s, and, during a ten-hour investigation, Russell confessed to the murders. When police searched his home, they found endless amount of underwear, all neatly stored. Russell was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole in 25 years.
